Coronado is the 2019 DSHS Horse of the Year

24 September 2019

With his continuing successes such as recently the second place in the 1.60m class of CSIO5* Gijon, ten-year-old Coronado is achieving remarkable results. Six years ago he was purchased by the Jacobs family in the Dutch Sport Horse Sales and since the end of 2016 he has been under the saddle of Francisco Pasquel. Tonight Coronado has been named DSHS Horse of the Year.

The DSHS Horse of the Year title is reserved for outliers on the highest level. After some successes in the international Youngster Tour, the Mexican rider Francisco Pasquel trained the Cassini I son, who was auctioned under the name Charlie Gray, to international 1.60m level. Last year, the Holsteiner which was bred by Karl-Heinz Markussen, jumped his first 1.50m and 1.60m courses and was already placed in multiple classes. At the beginning of this year, Francisco Pasquel and Coronado already won the 1.50m class of CSI3* Guadalajara, and shortly thereafter the also claimed the victory in the 1.50m class of CSI4* -W Leon. On last mentioned show, they were also able to finish fourth in the World Cup qualifier.

Award
Last summer the pair proved their value for the Mexican team several times in the nation competitions and they achieved a lot of good placings. At CSIO5* Gijon they jumped double clear to the second place in the 1.60m class. As a four-year-old, the impressive jumping Cassini I son was part of the collection of the Dutch Sport Horse Sales. In a packed Equestrian Center De Peelbergen, Joan Jacobs as Coronado’s buyer in 2013, was involved tonight in the honoring of Coronado as DSHS Horse of the Year. She received an award made by the Limburg artist Jos Dirix. Coronado thus succeeds the outstanding Canturano mare Chica B Z.
