Record breaking edition of the Dutch Sport Horse Sales with Cherry Tania as top-seller

It has been a brilliant thirteenth edition of the Dutch Sport Horse Sales at the Equestrian Centre de Peelbergen this Tuesday evening. With an average price of 132.000 Euros and the exceptional mare Cherry Tania as the top-seller for 385.000 Euros the Dutch Sport Horse Sales had another record breaking edition. As is tradition, 5% of the price of the top-seller was donated to Jennifer Crooks’ Uryadi’s Village foundation.

The average auction price increased by 12.000 Euros compared to last year and the magnificent Cherry Tania (Cellestial x Con Capitol) became the most expensive horse ever sold at the DSHS. The 6-year-old mare Cherry Tania showed incredible jumping prowess on both the video and in the live presentation, and iwe will be sure to see her skills again as she is going to a new home with one of world’s best riders. The sponsor of Laura Kraut, the USA’s top rider, purchased the outstanding mare Cherry Tania.

dshs-16l583683The horsemen behind the Dutch Sport Horse Sales, Paul, Emile, Timothy and Michel Hendrix and Yves Houtackers are extremely satisfied with this year’s result. “What a night it has been!”, Michel Hendrix exclaimed on behalf of the selection committee. “We did know that we had an excellent group of young, talented showjumpers. But we could only have dreamed of this outcome! We are very proud our clients have again expressed their trust in the Dutch Sport Horse Sales. There were some exceptional horses in this year’s collection and we can only be grateful that they will go to these great new owners!”

dshs-16l58865-pano3In addition to Cherry Tania, another five horses were sold for a price above 200.000 Euros. The impressive stallion Corragio (Conthargos x Tjungske) was sold to a Turkish buyer for 295.000 Euros. With his tremendous scope, amazing way of jumping and excellent conformation, Corragio was one of the highlights of this year’s collection. The group of 4-year-olds was exceptional this year, since also Haufóm (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Hamlet) was sold for 220.000 Euros to buyers from the United Kingdom.

The 5-year-old mare Gitania (Cantos x Lux) – half-sister to the Olympic showjumper Bardolino – was sold for 255.000 Euros to a buyer from the USA, while Larca van Erpecom (Kashmir van Schuttershof x Darco) will also cross the Atlantic for 200.000 Euros. F. Umonia (Chellano Z x Voltaire) will move to Belgium for 200.000 Euros.

During the break of the Dutch Sport Horse Sales auction, some noteworthy honors where celebrated in the wonderful arena of Equestrian Centre de Peelbergen. For the first time, the Dutch Sport Horse Sales handed out the award Youngster of the Year. The 6-year-old Brighton Bay (Ultimo x Kreator xx), born as Fulltime Fortina, ridden by Emma Augier de Moussac was awarded the first Youngster of the Year. “He has been amazing, he won twelve international competitions with me already”, Emma added after receiving the award.

dshs-16l592063The Horse of the Year-award was handed out to Emma Heise’s Viper Vrombautshoeve Z (Verdi x Karioka de Follee), after winning numerous international competitions including two CSI2* Grand Prix-competitions over the last year.

The Dutch Sport Horse Sales also gave some special attention to the family Hechme, the owners of the 7-year-old Everest (Carambole x Indoctro). Last Sunday, Everest won the bronze medal with Luc Steeghs with the World Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken.

A very special moment during the evening was also the honouring of the Olympic champion: Nick Skelton. The British showjumping legend got a standing ovation from the crowd for his historic performance at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games aboard his already legendary stallion Big Star.
